The Fraeylemaborg is a country estate in Slochteren, Groningen. The seven-century-old castle is located on an estate of over 23 hectares. The furnishing gives the impression of a classy house in the twentieth century.
Barbara Nanning’s enchanting glass art can be seen for the first time at the Fraeylemaborg Estate. Nanning makes glass, ceramics and large installations from her studio in Amsterdam. The selection of glass objects in this solo exhibition shows the enormous variety of her work. No wonder, her objects are in essence but snapshots, an attempt by the artist to capture movement, color and light.

She herself says about this: ‘I always work from the circle, an archetype. In the center of the circle is a resting point. From the resting point comes the movement and that is what I do; capturing the essence of movement and growth in my work.’

In 2023, Nanning was Artist of the Year in the UNESCO Year of Glass and her work can be found in 70 international museums.
