In honour of the UN International Year of Glass, Museum JAN presents the exhibition Barbara Nanning – Moving stillness.
The exhibition features the most recent work of glass artist Barbara Nanning (1957). In her three-dimensional sculptures, she always
combines tradition and innovation. She has created new, inventive techniques in collaboration with the most experienced glass-
blowers in the Czech Republic. The innovative architectural and interior design studio Atelier Tomas Dirrix has created a refreshing
3D exhibition design.

Barbara Nanning “Bedazzled”
Barbara Nanning, one of the most significant glass artists practising today. Over four decades, Nanning’s reputation has grown ever greater, thanks to her imagination, skill and aesthetic acuity, as well as an infinite drive to push the boundaries of what glass can do. Nanning, who trained in ceramics, chose glass as her preferred medium in 1994, for its fluidity, transparency, and dematerialised possibilities. She plays with its unparalleled ability to carry dazzling colour like an abstract expressionist painter, fully exploiting its emotional charge.
In her 40 year career, her practice has evolved from intricate studies of the natural world, to minimalist investigations of colour, and she has worked at every scale, from domestically-sized objects to immense glass panels and sculptures. The purity of her latest work is a testament to the extraordinary depth of her creativity and resolution.

November 18 2023 presentation Yearbook Artists 24
The Yearbook Artists 24 is presented on Saturday November 18, during the Dutch National Art Days in Gorinchem.
Artist of the Year 2023
Jury report Artist of the Year 2023
Barbara Nanning has become Artist of the Year 2023 in the category Gallery of Contemporary Artists 2023, 1st position.
The versatile oeuvre of Barbara Nanning includes large-scale installations, ceramic- and glasssculptures.
She received many international prizes for her ceramic works using the unique, sparkling, velvet-looking coloured sand finish that she developed.
Her large-scale installations can be found in indoor spaces, public streets and in cruise ships. For many of her monumental commissions, Barbara makes use of advanced computer designs. Moreover, she has developed types of finishes new to the industry that can be applied in large-scale projects.
Since 2000, Barbara has focused particularly on glass. She is constantly working with colour and light in a new manner, trying to capture the movement of nature by bringing it to a standstill; time caught in glass.
Her work can be found in the collection of more than 70 international museums.

Cor Unum celebrates 70th anniversary with an extensive plate collection “Legends & Legacy”
Ceramic studio Cor Unum celebrates its 70th anniversary with an exuberant exhibition of an extensive plate collection in the beating heart of Milan during the Salone Internazionale del Mobile 2023 , from 18-23 April. For this, Cor Unum asked no fewer than 70 young and renowned creatives to design a plate with the theme Legends & Legacy. Never before has Milan showcased work by so many designers, artists, architects and other makers in one exhibition. The entire presentation, including my plate inspired by my Colored Shadows glass series, is in the hands of Atelier FIG.

Pierre Marie Giraud specializes in unique pieces by international artists working in ceramics, glass and decorative arts. Founded in Brussels in 2005, the gallery represents an exceptional group of established artists from Europe, North America, Japan and Africa, and regularly showcases their work in both solo and thematic exhibitions. The minimalist and light-filled interiors of the gallery, which is housed in an elegant nineteenth-century townhouse, reflect Giraud’s considered approach towards the presentation and appreciation of contemporary applied art. At the same time, the spaces are domestic in scale, which reinforces the link between art and everyday life. The gallery is known for exhibiting only the very best and most original makers, and work that embodies conceptual, technical and aesthetic innovation. Pierre Marie Giraud is internationally recognized for his unparalleled expertise in ceramics. He regularly advises European and American museums on collection acquisitions and curatorial issues, and collaborates with a number of institutions on the promotion of contemporary ceramics. The gallery participates in fairs such as Design Basel and Design Miami, and is also noted for producing monographic publications on the artists featured in the exhibition programme.
