Glass panels, Jatoba Wood
35 x 129 x 151 cm
During a work period in Japan, artist Barbara Nanning got in touch with the technique of glass fusing – the fusing of multiple layers of flat glass. Intrigued by the decorative power, she looked for a functional application of this technique.
Barbara Nanning designed compositions of flat panels, with patterns of melted, colored glass threads. The glass panels are placed as revolving doors in the wooden cabinet. Also a lot of attention was paid to latches and locking system.
The spirit of the Bauhaus, where an intense interaction between artists of different disciplines in their studios and craftsmen in their workshops was rendered at the service of the final product, is continued in the collaboration between artist Barbara Nanning and designer Godfried Brands. A collaboration resulting in single pieces with a practical use. Each closet is unique, with room for beautiful things.
